  • A community block party called Deeply Rooted took place Sunday from 3 to 7 under the bridge on North Claiborne and Orleans to honor the two decades since Hurricane Katrina — it featured live music, local food and family activities while unveiling a new mural.  WDSU

CRIME NEWS

  • Police said four separate shootings in New Orleans overnight left one person dead and three injured—one of whom was a teen.  WWL-TV
  • New Orleans police are investigating a deadly shooting at Chef Menteur Highway and Downman Road shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Sunday where officers found a man with a gunshot wound and pronounced him dead at the scene — the Orleans Parish Coroner will determine the cause of death after notifying the victim’s family.  WDSU
  • New Orleans police are searching for Yandra Gomez, 30, an Algiers resident reported missing around 8:30 p.m. on Aug 31st who may be carrying a pink backpack and faces health challenges — her family is worried because she is intellectually disabled and officers are canvassing neighborhoods for leads.  WDSU

CULTURE NEWS

  • Southern Decadence is back in the French Quarter this evening with a parade that starts at Royal and Barracks and turns at Orleans — it continues to Dauphin and St. Louis before ending on Bourbon St.— The route is changed because a multimillion-dollar Sewerage and Water Board project is fixing old water main infrastructure.  WWL-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On August 22, officials discovered record turtle nesting on the Chandeleur Islands — with evidence from loggerhead and Kemp’s Ridley tracks. A $380 million restoration project on North Chandeleur Island will add dunes, marsh and sand reservoirs — aiming to protect endangered species and slow erosion if funding is approved.  NOLA.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New Orleans officials say the 2025 budget is short by over $100M because of extra overtime pay from added security and lower tax revenue, and they are thinking of raising fees and taxes—like higher sanitation fees, sales taxes, and parking rates—to fix the problem for the next mayor.  NOLA.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • The ninth ranked LSU Tigers defeated the fourth ranked Clemson Tigers 17-10 at Memorial Stadium Saturday night—ending their five-game losing streak in season openers that started in 2020. Next Saturday the Tigers will host Louisiana Tech.  WDSU
