- ➤ An accident on I-10 westbound near Orleans Ave/Vieux Carre/Exit 235A blocked the left lanes and led to major backups—emergency crews responded and advised drivers to exit at Orleans Avenue while it remains unclear if anyone was injured. WWL-TV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A New Orleans man was arrested after a shooting outside a business on U. S. 90 near Jamie Boulevard in Avondale occurred just before 1 a.m.—Semaj Brown allegedly shot the victim several times and the victim died at the scene as law enforcement continues to investigate. WWL-TV
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Liz Hefler, Hancock Whitney bank's Greater New Orleans regional president, said today that while commercial lending activity in sectors like maritime and hospitality is picking up, New Orleans must attract new businesses to grow its economy—she warned that concentrated local assets may hinder future growth. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Benjamin Franklin High School is facing severe overcrowding with students eating in hallways and teachers moving between temporary classrooms, and the school may cap enrollment if it cannot secure more space. Administrators are considering options such as building an extension, working with NOLA Public Schools, or leasing extra space from the University of New Orleans — a result of a 20% increase in enrollment over the past decade. - ➤ Longtime Orleans Parish Assessor Errol Williams, 76, faces off against three challengers—Tulane professor Casius Pealer III, former football player Coreygerard Dowden and estate lawyer Earl 'Jay' Schmitt Jr. The election is set for Oct. 11 and will lead to a runoff on Nov. 15 if no candidate wins more than half the vote.
