- ➤ Today, Pope Leo XIV appointed James Checchio—of the Diocese of Metuchen—as the new Coadjutor Archbishop of New Orleans to assist Archbishop Aymond, who will stay until the bankruptcy case is over and then retire. A 10 a.m. news conference will introduce Checchio, a Camden native, as he prepares to succeed Aymond when the time comes. WDSU

- ➤ New Orleans will host two world-renowned culinary competitions in July 2026 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center— the Pastry World Cup Americas selection on July 25 and the Bocuse d’Or Americas selection on July 26— as part of the Louisiana Restaurant Association Showcase. - ➤ Eddie’s in the 7th Ward was a cherished restaurant at 2119 Law St. that served traditional dishes such as gumbo and red beans and rice—its founder Eddie Baquet, a noted civil rights activist who opened the spot in 1966, lives on in the legacy carried forward by his family at Li’l Dizzy’s Cafe. - ➤ New Orleans Redevelopment Authority and Orleans Parish School Board met on September 23 to gather community ideas on repurposing Israel Augustine Middle School—an empty, century-old building at 425 S. Broad Street that has stood vacant since Hurricane Katrina.
