  • Starlab Space has picked Louisiana-based Vivace Corporation to build an aluminum structure for its new commercial space station at its New Orleans facility—NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility will help with testing before the station launches later this decade.  Biz New Orleans
  • On Friday, October 10 from 8 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., the Tulane Association of Business Alumni is hosting its 46th forum at the La Nouvelle Orléans Ballroom of the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center—prominent speakers will discuss how public-private efforts and new technology are boosting sectors like energy, finance, AI, and entertainment.   • St. Peter Claver Church will celebrate its 105th anniversary on Oct. 3. The church missed its 100th celebration in 2020 due to COVID-19—parishioners now plan several events including a gala at Hyatt Regency.  Verite News

  • Downtown New Orleans is set to see nearly $3B in planned projects as the Downtown Development District report shows new offices, hotels and retail spaces rising with lower vacancy rates. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Councilmember Joe Giarrusso announced he will leave elected office after eight years to join a private law firm full time when his current term ends in January—District A now faces a competitive election for his seat.  Verite News
  • Royce Duplessis—a state senator and native son running for mayor—said he will end City Hall chaos by adding 40,000 new homes and starting universal prekindergarten if elected. He has earned key endorsements from local leaders who support his fresh approach to reviving the city.  NOLA.com
  • A closed-door meeting with the president on Monday led congressional leaders to take a hard line that may shut down the federal government tonight and temporarily stop new flood insurance policies for about 458,000 Louisiana policyholders if lawmakers do not extend the program. Lawmakers must pass a continuing resolution by November 21 — a vote that remains uncertain as Senate votes are planned.  NOLA.com
  • Nearly a year and a half after officials promised to demolish the abandoned DeGaulle Manor in Algiers, work stalled because a change in scope and rising asbestos abatement costs halted progress — a new contractor is set to restart demolition as early as Oct. 1.
