ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Louisiana State Police are handling multiple crashes on I-10 in St. John Parish—drivers from the Spillway headed to New Orleans are advised to take an alternate route as no injuries have been reported and delays remain heavy.  WDSU

  • T. Parker Host acquired Impala Terminals Burnside effective Sept. 29 and renamed it Ascension Bulk Terminal; the firm will invest $6 million in upgrades on a 230-acre site along the Lower Mississippi River (expanding its portfolio to three terminals with assets in Davant and Avondale).  Biz New Orleans

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Louisiana adopted a new pre-K law that requires private schools to secure a state license with background checks and inspections to improve child safety today. Private school leaders claim the regulation is excessive and may force tuition increases, and they are urging lawmakers to delay its enforcement.  NOLA.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Five candidates are running in the New Orleans City Council District A race on Oct. 11 with a focus on repairing roads, enhancing services and balancing the budget in Mid-City, Lakeview, Hollygrove and Uptown—each candidate promising to tackle pothole repairs and flood mitigation—while early voting runs through Friday.  NOLA.com
  • Leading mayoral candidates in New Orleans say they plan to reshape the city fee that costs schools more than $10 million each year—two candidates would stop the fee while a third would lower it. They also promise to boost fiscal transparency and expand education programs ahead of the Oct. 11 election.  NOLA.com
  • FCC officials postponed long-awaited reforms to lower prison phone rates until 2027, leaving families to face high costs for calls. A new contract at the Orleans Justice Center raised rates from six to 16 cents per minute—intensifying concerns for low-income households trying to stay connected with loved ones.  The Lens
  • Mayor LaToya Cantrell delivered her final budget proposal to City Council after the city's forecast dropped by $7 million — the proposal highlighted a nearly $104 million deficit and outlined spending freezes and revenue measures as legal challenges over collection fees added to the uncertainty.  NOLA.com
