  • NOLAvate Black announced that its free Black Tech NOLA AI Summit will be held on Oct. 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the New Orleans Jazz Market. The one-day event will offer talks, live demos and workshops that help creatives and entrepreneurs learn about AI.  Biz New Orleans

  • Taste Buds Management and Zea Rotisserie & Bar announced Jeffrey Thibodeaux as their new Area Director of Operations. The New Orleans native—who has 25 years of hospitality experience starting as a dishwasher—will lead local operations and team development.  Biz New Orleans
  • Gage acquired Data Management Services on Sept. 1 in a strategic merger that expands its IT support and technology services for South Louisiana businesses. CULTURE NEWS

  • New Orleans will host Rockin’1000, a global collective of 1,000 musicians, in its U.S. debut at Caesars Superdome on Jan. 31—an event featuring a setlist of classic rock anthems with a New Orleans-inspired horn section. Musicians may join the band through an open registration process.  WDSU

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Louisiana’s FUEL initiative is expanding its clean energy workforce programs statewide using a $160M NSF grant that has already given $1M to 14 projects + it will add $45M in funding over the next three years to boost training from K-12 to technical programs.  New Orleans City Business

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Louisiana AG Liz Murrill asked the DOJ to drop the $128 million lawsuit against insurers over an oil spill that started in 2004 and still harms our local energy industry. She said that continuing the lawsuit risks cutting oil coverage and hurting jobs—factors that could limit future offshore production.  NOLA.com
  • Calvin Duncan faces heavy criticism in his race for New Orleans clerk of criminal court as opponents question his exoneration after his murder conviction was vacated in 2021—Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill and incumbent Darren Lombard dispute his innocence. Duncan, who later earned a law degree and helped shape a landmark Supreme Court ruling on jury practices, campaigns for the election on Saturday amid rising controversy over his past.  New Orleans City Business
  • City leaders announced that demolition resumed at DeGaulle Manor in Algiers yesterday. The former apartment complex once attracted art fans—now overrun and on the dirty dozen list—and city officials noted a $2 million estimate from last year.  WDSU
  • St. Tammany Councilwoman Kathy Seiden launches her Senate bid today—she is the first woman in the Louisiana GOP primary as she challenges incumbent Bill Cassidy.  WWL-TV
  • National park sites such as the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park and Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve are closed due to a federal government shutdown that began last week, canceling scheduled performances like that of Afro Brazilian guitarist Geovane Santos. The closures have halted local cultural visits that generated significant economic activity — leaving their reopening uncertain until Congress passes a spending bill.  Verite News
  • A new inspector general report found systemic failures in New Orleans’ Safety & Permits office—echoing findings from WWL Louisiana’s Hidden Dangers investigation. Officials plan to review the report as concerns remain unresolved.  WWL-TV
  • The Supreme Court will hear Louisiana v. Callais on Oct. 15—challenging new congressional maps that may change how minority voters are represented. The decision could have a national impact.  WWL-TV
  • Rep. Brett Geymann and Sen. Bob Hensgens have urged the Toledo Bend Reservoir authority to cancel its plan to sell water to a Texas company and protect Louisiana's water supply—legislators say that a sale could lower lake levels and harm local recreation. The proposal is still under review and must gain approval from several government bodies before any sale moves forward.  NOLA.com
