  • EquipmentShare opened its ninth branch in Lacombe in St. Tammany Parish during a ribbon-cutting attended by local and state officials—this expansion will add 120 new jobs statewide, extend its presence to 13 locations, and support local nonprofits with annual donations.  Biz New Orleans
  • Rowan Piercing, a nurse-led ear piercing studio known for offering safe and hypoallergenic piercings, opened Oct. 11 at Lakeside Shopping Center in Metairie. CRIME NEWS

  • Law enforcement officials working with local and federal partners+ issued a public safety alert after investigators seized a green fentanyl form that appears in chalk, gel or tar-like forms and may be mistaken for cannabis, posing an immediate threat to public health and safety on the Northshore and Greater New Orleans.  Fox 8

CULTURE NEWS

  • A New Orleans family uncovered a 1,900-year-old tombstone in their backyard—experts confirmed it belonged to Roman sailor Sextus Congenius Verus and had been missing from an Italian museum for decades. The FBI is working with Italian authorities to have the artifact repatriated.  New Orleans City Business
  • The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and Jefferson Performing Arts Society are set to present a music-only concert featuring Studio Ghibli soundtracks—composed by Joe Hisaishi—at the Jefferson Performing Arts Center on Oct. 30. The event will showcase scores from Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Howl's Moving Castle, and Kiki’s Delivery Service for fans to experience the films’ iconic emotional depth.  WDSU

  • New Orleans will expand travel in 2026 with new cruise capacity at the Port, additional flights at Louis Armstrong Airport, and Amtrak’s Mardi Gras Service linking New Orleans and Mobile.   • Two new pipelines in north Louisiana’s Haynesville Shale have entered service and will add a combined 3.9 Bcf/d of gas capacity by the end of the year—boosting LNG export terminals on the Gulf Coast at Port Arthur.   • Dr. Monty Sullivan, president of LCTCS, announced he will retire in early 2026 after leading 12 community and technical colleges that serve over 130,000 students and achieving significant growth in graduates and assets.   • Hyundai executives raised concerns about road safety and emergency preparedness for the steel mill project at RiverPlex Megapark in Ascension Parish, citing past issues near a CF Industries ammonia plant. Louisiana officials are reviewing traffic models, power studies, and funding options to expand roads to four lanes by September 2026 — a critical step before construction proceeds.  New Orleans City Business
  • Juan Manuel de Salcedo was the last Spanish governor of Louisiana and struggled to protect the colony with few troops and little money while facing accusations (by critics) of profiting from his post. He was appointed on October 24th, 1799 but took office on July 15th, 1801, and his term ended after Spain traded Louisiana back to France on October 1st, 1800 (leading him to leave New Orleans in May 1804).  Verite News

  • University Medical Center New Orleans is hosting its Annual Fall Health Fest on October 18 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the lawn by the corner of Canal St and N.   • Manning Family Children's opened its first ThriveKids Community Clinic in New Orleans East on Monday on Haynes Blvd.—The clinic, operating from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., offers pediatric and mental health services to nearly 20,000 local children—It expects to serve about 5,000 children this first year with a team of pediatricians and mental health professionals.  NOLA.com
  • NOLA Detox— a trusted treatment provider— will open a new 30-bed campus in Slidell in October as its current site stays full and wait lists keep growing. The expansion boosts its total capacity to 78 beds and offers same-day admissions along with free transportation for families facing opioid challenges.  Biz New Orleans

SPORTS NEWS

  • Loyola University New Orleans received a $1 million donation to begin renovations on its University Sports Complex, which will upgrade locker rooms, athletic training areas and a weight room for its 330+ student athletes.
