- ➤ New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity got a $10K grant from Bank of America to build a safe, affordable home in Orleans Parish—Bank of America employees from New Orleans and Baton Rouge will volunteer today as part of the Global Build event. The project continues a long-standing partnership to build homes to FORTIFIED Gold standards and help families gain stable housing. Biz New Orleans
- ➤ United Way of Southeast Louisiana announced a second cycle of RESOLVE NOLA Impact Grants that will award $155,500 to 13 local nonprofit groups to improve mental health and addiction services for youth and families affected by community violence and trauma — the funding follows a rigorous review process. - ➤ Deep South Today announced it will launch a new regional investigative reporting center in early 2026 in collaboration with The New York Times Local Investigations Fellowship and local newsrooms including New Orleans-based Verite News — the center will add full-time investigative staff and data reporters to boost accountability reporting across the region. - ➤ Biz New Orleans is hosting Biz Night today at the newly renovated New Orleans Ernest N. - ➤ Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office warned that green fentanyl—resembling chalk, gel, or tar and easily mistaken for cannabis—is 100% deadly and has been linked to a 30% rise in opioid-related emergencies in Northshore and greater New Orleans. Louisiana Radio Network

- ➤ From Oct. 23—27, New Orleans will host the 36th Annual New Orleans Film Festival with over 130 films including 19 world premieres, and residents can get their first ticket free to enjoy screenings—plus parties, workshops, and meet and greets held across the city. Biz New Orleans
- ➤ The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra will perform its annual Sunset Symphony at Lakeside Park on Oct. 18 with a special performance by the Greater New Orleans Youth Orchestra beginning at 4:30 p.m.—Families can enjoy free outdoor music with food vendors and a backup date on Oct. 19 if needed. - ➤ New Orleans City Park is hosting seasonal Halloween events at Carousel Gardens with Ghosts in the Oaks offering trick-or-treating and spooky rides for families from Thursday through Oct. 19 — and Brews and Boos providing craft brews and a costumed atmosphere for adults on Oct. 24 and 25. - ➤ Louisiana Children’s Museum will host its 27th annual Play Soirée gala on October 25 at its City Park campus—featuring live music, gourmet cuisine, and a raffle prize to support play-based learning programs. - ➤ Louisiana officials canceled the Mid-Breton Sediment Diversion project—designed to send Mississippi River water to Breton Sound marsh that has lost much of its land. The decision follows the earlier scrapping of the Mid-Barataria project and may affect other efforts in the state’s Coastal Master Plan—sparking concerns among conservation groups. The Lens
- ➤ Gov. Jeff Landry signed an executive order banning AI tools from hostile foreign governments from Louisiana schools, universities, and state agencies to protect against espionage and propaganda risks. The order requires agencies to get CIO approval and inventory existing contracts while pausing new deals until state policies are set. New Orleans City Business
- ➤ City leaders updated the East New Orleans Neighborhood Advisory Commission on a scaled-back plan for Lincoln Beach that focuses on safety, access, and affordability — the first phase will include a pedestrian bridge, parking improvements, shoreline stabilization, and restoration of waterfront structures while keeping the budget at $15 million. If the City Council approves the contract with Digital Engineering on October 23, the city will break ground by August 2026 and reopen the beach in Fall 2027. WWL-TV
- ➤ William M. Hammack, a local businessman and political donor, is suing state senator and mayoral candidate Royce Duplessis along with political strategist Tyronne B. Walker and social justice advocate Gary Chambers, Jr.—accusing them of defamation for sharing an email he mistakenly sent that mentioned a racist slur against Helena Moreno. The lawsuit claims the defendants used the email to fuel online and media attacks, exposing its content to over 1.5 million people. WWL-TV
