  • New Orleans & Co. beat its annual sales goal as CEO Walt Leger said in a letter on Oct. 17 that the team booked 1,229,962 hotel room nights through Sept 30—helping boost the city's profile after The Telegraph ranked it No. 2. The company will expand its marketing partnerships and will promote Rockin’1000 at Caesars Superdome on Jan. 31.  Biz New Orleans

  • NBA YoungBoy will perform in New Orleans as law enforcement & event organizers prepare a heavy security presence to manage a large crowd. Officials say the measures are designed to keep the event safe and ensure smooth operations.  Fox 8
  • Praise Fest marks its 16th year along Bayou St. John while NOLA Funk Fest in New Orleans will highlight local music and pay artists above market rates—aiming to support fair earnings for local talent.  WWL-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Southern University will hold its homecoming on Saturday at 4 p.m. as the Jaguars face Prairie View A&M, with officials adding plain clothes officers — Baton Rouge police and Louisiana State Police — to bolster campus security amid recent threats made against HBCUs.  Fox 8
  • PRSA New Orleans has announced a professional panel called 'Beyond the Pitch: Building Authentic Connections with New Orleans’ Hispanic Media' that will help local communications professionals learn strategies to engage the growing Hispanic community. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Saturday, thousands gathered at Lafitte Greenway for the No Kings protest — a blend of music, costumes, and chants — as part of a nationwide effort to change government policies. Protesters said the event aimed to protect democracy and ensure that citizens’ voices are heard.  Fox 8

SPORTS NEWS

  • Jake Retzlaff threw two touchdown passes in the final two minutes to lead Tulane to a 24-17 win over Army on Saturday; his 26-yard pass to Shazz Preston with 27 seconds left clinched the game. He completed 22 of 29 passes for 261 yards and ran for a touchdown — his strong performance helped secure the win.  Fox 8
  • Spencer Rattler gave up the ball four times — with three interceptions and a strip sack on his first play — as the Saints defense allowed Chicago to rush for over 200 yards and build a 20-0 lead for a 26-14 loss at Soldier Field on Sunday. The Saints fell to 1-6 and will host the Buccaneers next Sunday.  WWL-TV
  • The New Orleans Pelicans announced Friday that rookie Derik Queen has been cleared to resume full basketball activities after his July 18 wrist surgery to repair a torn ligament sustained during a Summer League game on July 15 — he is set to join the team for season openers on October 22 in Memphis and October 24 against the Spurs.  Fox 8
  • In a preseason game on Oct.16 in Orlando, Pelicans guard Jordan Poole scored 21 points in three quarters in a 132–125 loss to the Magic, showing the dynamic play expected after his trade from Washington. The team will begin its regular season in Memphis on Oct.22 at 7 p.m.—a debut that comes as they adjust their scoring strategy.  Fox 8
  • Pelicans games on the Gulf Coast Sports — Entertainment Network will soon be available to DIRECTV streaming, satellite, and U-verse customers across the three-state territory, with the season opener against the Memphis Grizzlies set for Wednesday, October 22 and pre-game coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m. on FOX 8.  Fox 8
  • Former Saints head coach Dennis Allen, now the Bears' defensive coordinator, led his unit to force four turnovers on quarterback Spencer Rattler as Chicago out-rushed New Orleans 222 to 44—snapping an eight-game winning streak by the Saints over Chicago. The Bears improved to 4-2 overall and will host Tampa Bay at the Superdome next Sunday.  WDSU
