  • LWCC hosted the 2025 AASCIF Annual Conference at the New Orleans Marriott Downtown from Oct 11 to Oct 14 — over 400 workers comp professionals gathered to share ideas and network. Industry speakers such as Ranjay Gulati and Dr. Jonathan H.   • Burlington Stores will open a new discount outlet at Riverwalk Outlets — 500 Port of New Orleans Place on Friday, October 24, featuring a reimagined layout and bold signage to simplify shopping for big savings on brand name merchandise.   • Tickets are on sale now for the Witches and Warlocks Mini Soiree fundraiser at the New Orleans Storyville Museum on Conti Street from 6:30 to 8:30, Oct. 29.   • A new report found that child poverty among Louisiana kids was 19%—the highest in the nation and well above the national average of 13%.   • Louisiana Policy Institute for Children is inviting parents of young children to take a 10 to 15 minute poll on early education that focuses on rising childcare costs and needed support. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Louisiana residents will not see new SNAP benefits loaded on their cards next month due to the government shutdown, though previous benefits remain available. The Louisiana Department of Health will notify families and retailers this week—officials say benefits will resume when the government reopens.  WDSU

HEALTH NEWS

  • New Orleans doctors warn that the government shutdown is delaying Medicare payments and life-saving care for elderly residents — local physicians report missed prescriptions and reduced telehealth options in rural areas, adding to concerns about treatment disruptions.
