  • New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity received a $250,000 disaster resilience grant from Verizon to replace at least 16 damaged roofs — the funding will also connect homeowners with insurance and disaster response education. The grant is part of Verizon’s Community Disaster Resiliency initiative designed to help local families lower repair costs and build more resilient homes.  Biz New Orleans

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rock legend Mark Farner will headline the Ozone Songwriter Festival on Friday night in Covington — he will perform classic songs that reflect decades of rock experience and fond memories of playing in New Orleans. His acoustic trio will join him on stage, promising an energetic show on October 31.  NOLA.com
  • The Krewe of Boo event rolled through New Orleans with clear weather on Oct. 25. Organizers said the parade went off smoothly (updated at 6:00 a.m.) and visitors enjoyed the calm conditions.  Fox 8

HEALTH NEWS

  • At Ochsner Health, doctors used an AI—driven catheter on Oct 24 to treat a patient’s irregular heartbeat by burning tiny scars that block misfiring signals. Hospitals now are testing similar AI tools—like systems that read scans and record clinical notes—to improve care for patients.  NOLA.com

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Today, developers Brown-Taylor Development, Westside Redevelopment, and the Algiers Development District break ground on The Lofts at Federal City — a 60-unit market-rate apartment project at 2275 Sanctuary Dr in Algiers that will boost residential and economic growth with construction expected to take 18 months.  New Orleans City Business
  • During October 10th—23rd, permits were approved for major commercial and residential projects in New Orleans, Jefferson and St Tammany parishes. The projects include a $33.9M restoration at the Historic New Orleans Collection’s Merieult House set to reopen in 2028, an $80.9M dormitory for Xavier University housing 840 students, and a new boutique hotel on St. Claude Ave that point to ongoing regional development.  New Orleans City Business

  • LSU fired head coach Brian Kelly on Sunday after a 45-29 loss to Texas A&M — his record did not match the high salary as the team struggled with three losses in four games. New Orleans native Frank Wilson is named interim coach while LSU searches for a permanent replacement, with Lane Kiffin reportedly favored.  Louisiana Radio Network
  • On Monday night the Pelicans hosted the winless Celtics at Smoothie King Center and hoped to get their first win despite injury issues with Yves Missi as a game-time decision and Kevon Looney out while the Celtics struggled after trading key players and facing a season-ending injury to Jayson Tatum—forcing heavy scoring onto Jaylen Brown.  Fox 8
  • LSU fired offensive coordinator Joe Sloan on Monday—nearly 12 hours after firing head coach Brian Kelly—following their loss to Texas A&M. Officials did not name an interim coordinator for the rest of the season.  WWL-TV
  • The Saints lost 23 to 3 to the Buccaneers after Spencer Rattler was benched for rookie Tyler Shough amid multiple turnovers, and coach Kellen Moore said he will decide the quarterback role over the next 48 hours—hoping to spark a better offense ahead of the Rams game. The decision adds to growing concerns about the team's offensive consistency this season.  WDSU
  • The Saints lost 23-3 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday after turning the ball over four times—rookie Tyler Shough replaced Spencer Rattler after two turnovers and Coach Kellen Moore said the team must improve before their game against the Rams in Los Angeles this Sunday.  Louisiana Radio Network
