  • Audubon Zoo welcomed three African lion cubs—marking the first time a litter of three all survived—and officials said the event sparked excitement at the zoo.  WWL-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Nearly 60 Louisiana small business owners are at the Goldman Sachs Summit in Washington today, joining more than 2,000 nationwide—survey data shows many are determined to grow their businesses amid inflation fears and a potential government shutdown. A survey of 1,471 participants indicates 78% are optimistic about their companies and 74% plan to expand in the next year.  Biz New Orleans
  • Cold Stone Creamery had a successful soft opening at Manhattan Place Target Center in Harvey and will hold an official grand opening in November. Local owners say the outlet — which aims to provide families a convenient dessert stop — will boost foot traffic at the growing retail center anchored by Target.  Biz New Orleans

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana and HCCL Young Professionals are hosting the annual Día de los Muertos Festival at Lafayette Square on Nov. 1st from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.—the event will include cultural performances, a costume contest, family activities, and an afterparty at Tacos Del Cartel.   Biz New Orleans
  • City Park Conservancy announced that its Celebration in the Oaks festival will return this holiday season with new lighting, 12-foot angel installations, and updated holiday exhibits at City Park. The month-long event from Nov. 28 to Jan. 1 draws over 135,000 visitors each year—helping support nearly 10% of the park’s operating budget.  Biz New Orleans

  • Dillard University welcomes Dr. Monique Guillory as its 9th president and the first local native to lead the school. She will host ‘Dare to Dream’ investiture events (Oct. 31-Nov. 2) to share her vision with the campus community.  WWL-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today a cold front moved through southeast Louisiana, causing wind gusts up to 40mph and cooler temperatures in the mid 60s—meteorologist Payton Malone warned that tonight’s light overnight high will give way to even colder air, though Friday evening is expected to be clear and ideal for trick-or-treating.  WWL-TV

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Representatives from Brown-Taylor Development, Westside Redevelopment and the Algiers Development District celebrated the groundbreaking of Riverside Lofts at Federal City today, which will convert a 120 year old machine shop into 60 new apartments in a carefully restored 43,000 square foot building. The project—built to the Fortified Gold Standard to protect against storms—is expected to take about 18 months and is part of a larger effort to add both affordable and market-rate housing to the campus.  Biz New Orleans
