  • 16 celebrity + restaurant teams will gather on Nov. 2 at the St. Tammany Justice Center rooftop to raise funds for Hope House to support local child abuse victims.  WWL-TV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Tulane’s National Biomedical Research Center said a truck carrying 21 lab monkeys crashed on Interstate 59 in Mississippi on Tuesday, causing five deaths and leaving three monkeys loose—adding to a history of controversy over its animal testing methods and its role in key HIV/AIDS and Lyme disease research.  NOLA.com

  • Frontier Airlines will add 12 new flight routes to MSY for Mardi Gras 2026 — daily flights will run from Atlanta, Denver, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Orlando, and Philadelphia — and they will also boost flights from other cities to give travelers more choices for reaching the Big Easy.  New Orleans City Business
  • LongueVue Capital — a New Orleans private equity firm — was named to Inc. magazine’s 2025 Founder-Friendly Investors list for the fifth consecutive year. The firm manages more than $700 million in capital and supports local companies to grow.  Biz New Orleans
  • Meta Platforms reorganized its AI division by shifting about 600 roles to improve efficiency and speed product development, and on Oct. 21 it finalized a $27B joint-financing deal with Blue Owl Capital to build a 4-million-square-foot data center campus in Richland Parish—an effort expected to generate thousands of jobs. The deal marks one of Louisiana’s largest private infrastructure financings and reflects the company’s long-term commitment to expanding its AI capabilities.  Biz New Orleans

  • Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine has named new associate deans and advanced to candidate status with the LCME—marking a key step toward opening the only HBCU medical college in the Gulf South. As part of its Centennial Homecoming events, the college will soon host the inaugural Dr. J.W.   • A dangerous, cloudy plume with very high pH spilled from Atalco’s alumina refinery into the Mississippi River last week—exceeding federal limits and reviving concerns over repeated pollution violations.   • Clergy abuse survivors in New Orleans approved a $230 million bankruptcy settlement with the Archdiocese after almost all creditors voted in favor during a six-week ballot that ended Wednesday + bondholders voted against the plan and face a confirmation hearing in late November that may clear the long-running case by year’s end.  NOLA.com
  • New Orleans’ River District project is in turmoil after Louis Lauricella’s consortium pulled out of a deal with the Convention Center on Thursday, leaving plans for residences, hotels and shops on 47 acres in doubt. City leaders must now find new partners to move the project forward—an effort seen as key to boosting local tourism and business.  NOLA.com
  • A viral video captured by Jasmine Saul shows cars hitting deep potholes on Acacia Street that shake houses and damage vehicles—city officials patched the street days after her first report, but residents say the fix did not hold.  WDSU
  • State fire officials warn residents as a strong cold front hits southeast Louisiana, following a rise in home fire deaths that claimed 69 lives in 51 incidents — 15 more than last year.
