COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local communities in New Orleans are honoring veterans with events starting today, including the Lakeview Veterans Parade at 11 a.m. and upcoming ceremonies at the WWII Museum and a veterans health center on Nov. 11; an online expo for veteran resources will be held on Nov. 14.  WWL-TV
  • Rock of Ages Baptist Church provided relief Friday by distributing 70,000 pounds of food and groceries on Franklin Avenue for 400 families facing delayed SNAP benefits+ it also handed out $40,000 in gasoline cards to furloughed federal employees at two Shell locations+ Pastor Jonathan Everett said the effort aims to support struggling residents during the benefit delay.  WDSU

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Adler’s, known as the Tiffany’s of the South, is closing after 127 years on Canal Street as fourth-generation owner Coleman E. Adler II retires—his children will not continue the business. The store will begin a retirement sale soon, and no firm closure date has been set.  NOLA.com
  • Meta signed a deal with Treaty Oaks to develop two large solar farms in Morehouse and Sabine parishes that will supply clean energy to offset part of the emissions from its $27 billion AI data center in Richland Parish. The projects, which will break ground before the end of the year and are expected to bring over $100 million in local tax revenue and 300 construction jobs, mark a significant investment in rural Louisiana.  NOLA.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • Pop star Billie Eilish performed Friday at the Smoothie King Center and will perform again today on her ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft’ tour—she partnered with Support and Feed to donate proceeds to the New Orleans Women and Children’s Center with help from Top Box Foods.  Fox 8
  • New Orleans now has three Michelin-starred restaurants—Emeril’s with two stars, Saint-Germain and Zasu each with one star—and over two dozen local eateries have received additional recognition; food writer Ian McNulty stresses that local diners still decide which spots truly represent our rich dining culture.  WWNO

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Avondale Global Gateway announced that the historic Avondale Shipyard is officially certified asbestos-free — ending years of hazardous contamination. The company reported 30% growth in 2025 — and plans to add over 50 jobs as it transforms the site into a modern logistics hub.  Biz New Orleans

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • DOTD leaders reported that a fire at a homeless encampment damaged the concrete deck and steel supports of the Loyola Avenue on-ramp to the Pontchartrain Expressway, which is now closed indefinitely. Cleanup began Friday and officials are concerned that dropping temperatures may cause similar damage at other busy corridors.  WDSU
  • New Orleans and the NORD Commission completed $1,417,892 in upgrades at Wesley Barrow Stadium in Gentilly—funded by $1 million in state capital outlay and City Bonds—and installed NFL-donated Super Bowl turf, a new scoreboard, a resurfaced parking lot and an HVAC system to improve safety and accessibility at the urban youth academy.  Biz New Orleans
  • The New Orleans Office of Cultural Economy announced it has paused 2026 grants due to a financial crisis—officials said revenue losses this year forced a careful review of fiscal priorities. Mayor-elect Helena Moreno has not yet commented on future funding plans.  WDSU
  • Amid the federal shutdown that halted SNAP funds, Gulf States are filling the gap by directing money to food banks plus Louisiana and Alabama are starting temporary programs to send aid directly to SNAP and TANF recipients, although Louisiana is suspending its temporary November program.  WWNO
  • The FAA announced it will reduce air traffic at 40 major airports to ease the strain on controllers who have been working without pay during a 38-day shutdown—travelers from MSY to major hubs may face canceled or delayed flights. Officials warned the situation could worsen during the upcoming holiday travel period.  WWL-TV
