COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Fundraising efforts continue today in New Orleans to help survivors of Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica. Local woman Stephanie Minto-Gibson is raising funds for food, water, and tarps to cover homes after hearing her father lost everything during the storm—she was born in St Elizabeth and remains deeply worried.  WDSU

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Tremé Creole Gumbo Festival returned to Armstrong Park in New Orleans on November 8 and 9, 2025—drawing local vendors and music lovers for a traditional celebration of Creole cuisine.  WWL-TV
  • This holiday season, New Orleans will feature festive light displays and family-friendly events from late November through early January at well-known spots like City Park, Metairie and downtown areas. Visitors can enjoy driving and walking tours along vibrant routes — events include Celebration in the Oaks, Christmas in Lafrenière Park and Lights on the Lake.  WWL-TV
  • Audubon Aquarium hosted the Wands and Wishes Mermaids from November 6-9 and will host shows with tropical fish and stingrays from November 13-16 and 20-23—providing an interactive experience. Guests may meet a mermaid and take photos during open hours from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.—adding a personal touch to the event.  WDSU

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Southeast Louisiana is bracing for freezing temperatures as a watch will go into effect this evening through Tuesday morning after Monday morning lows were 35 to 43 degrees + wind chills hit the 20s and 30s. Residents on the Northshore in Slidell are taking steps to protect homes by wrapping exposed pipes and safeguarding well water while officials remind everyone to use safe heating practices as highs rebound on Wednesday.  WDSU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city of New Orleans announced it will soon activate new pedestrian hybrid beacons at the intersection of Lafitte Greenway and N. Broad Street to improve safety for pedestrians and bicyclists — motorists must stop when the beacons shift to an all-red phase.  WDSU

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Friday, the NCAA revoked the eligibility of six men’s college basketball players for alleged sports betting violations at Arizona State, New Orleans and Mississippi Valley State. The investigation found that the players manipulated game outcomes or shared betting information during the 2024-25 season — actions taken as the NCAA expanded its probe.  Fox 8
  • Tyler Shough set a team rookie passing record with 282 yards as he led the Saints to a 17-7 win over the Panthers, becoming the first rookie QB to win for New Orleans since Dave Wilson in 1981. The defense held Panthers running back Rico Dowdle to 53 yards & limited quarterback Bryce Young to 124 yards, and the Saints will face the Falcons on Sunday, Nov 23.  WDSU
