COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The annual Mandeville Veterans Day Parade took place on Nov. 8 and honored American heroes with marching units and veterans along Lakeshore Drive. A jambalaya cook-off and a concert by Rockin’ Dopsie and the Zydeco Twisters followed—proceeds from food sales supported veterans causes, and organizer NextOp has helped more than 1,200 local vets find work.  NOLA.com
  • WDSU News will host a 'Stuff the Truck' food drive event at its TV station in the Central Business District on Friday, Nov. 14 to help residents facing food insecurity. The drop-off will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.—WDSU alum Norman Robinson will speak as all donations will go to United Way.  WDSU
  • Families in New Orleans will celebrate Thanksgiving with several events including the 6th annual Human Horse Races at Easton Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.—and the Turkey Day Race at Tad Gormley Stadium with registration opening at 6:30 a.m. The day will also feature the Classic Race at Fair Grounds with doors opening at 11 a.m. and City Park’s Celebration in the Oaks with a drive-through light display for families.  WWL-TV

  • Entrepreneur Logan Gobert opened Matcha Magic at 2000 Tulane Ave. in the New Orleans BioDistrict in April to blend an old Japanese tea tradition with modern data tools for a healthy café.   • Travel accessories brand Stoney Clover Lane will reopen its Magazine Street shop on November 13 with a pop-up concept that features past collections at exclusive prices—targeting holiday shoppers until January. CULTURE NEWS

  • Laura Plantation in St. James Parish will honor 1,400 Black and Creole soldiers, including nine former slaves, with a ceremony starting at 10 a.m. today—descendants will read names from the 75th United States Colored Infantry—marking a lasting tribute to Louisiana's Civil War legacy.  NOLA.com
  • Beignet Fest will return to the City Park Festival Grounds on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.—the event will feature 40 types of beignets, music by Marc Broussard and other local acts, and free entry for kids 10 and under as tickets are on sale now. Proceeds will support autism programs initiated by festival director Sherwood Collins to help children in need.  WDSU

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • After the coldest air of the season arrived Sunday night, some residents in New Orleans and Jefferson Parish lost power when strong winds snapped power poles — prompting a hard freeze warning. FEMA advises keeping freezers closed, using generators only outdoors, and preparing backup plans for food and medication storage during extended outages.  WDSU
  • A report by Earthjustice released Nov3 raised concerns over Air Products’ proposal for the Louisiana Clean Energy Complex — a plan that includes a 38-mile CO2 pipeline running to Lake Maurepas near a school in Ascension Parish, and officials will review its environmental impact as the project moves forward.  Biz New Orleans

  • RBC Wealth Management opened its first branch in New Orleans today with a five-person advisory team managing over $1.2B in client assets, marking a clear step in its U.S. expansion. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The federal government has opened bids to lease about 80 million acres in the Gulf for oil and gas exploration under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act—energy companies have until December 10 to submit offers that could boost Louisiana’s share of royalties through GOMESA.  NOLA.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • On November 9, the Louisiana Department of Health confirmed that an adult case of measles was linked to international travel at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport—concourse B between 5 and 8:30 p.m. The patient, whose vaccination status is unknown, was not hospitalized and is in isolation while local health departments will notify passengers from the same flight; this is the third measles case confirmed in 2025.  Fox 8

  • A $9.3M Entergy re-energization project is underway at 2900 Perdido St. in Mid-City as registered contractor Trosclair Todd works to safely restore power—ensuring compliance with Entergy’s safety standards.
