COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Boys Town Louisiana appointed community leaders Torry Jacob Dean (a leader at the Junior League of New Orleans and an arts advocate) and Jacinta Massey (an education expert from Nunez Community College) to its board of directors to strengthen programs for vulnerable youth and families. Their combined expertise will guide efforts to provide stability and opportunity in New Orleans.  Biz New Orleans

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Louisiana business leader Jim Bernhard died unexpectedly. He founded The Shaw Group and Bernhard Capital Partners, built a Fortune 500 company with over 30,000 employees, and supported local charities (funeral details to be announced later).  New Orleans City Business
  • Rouses Markets will acquire 10 Winn-Dixie stores in Louisiana and Mississippi— including the New Orleans East location at 9701 Chef Menteur Hwy designed to ease food access in a longstanding food desert. The deal will finalize early next year and all Winn-Dixie employees will have the chance to join Rouses, as confirmed by CEO Donny Rouse in a WWL interview.  WWL-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Krewe of Endymion announced that Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton will headline the Endymion Extravaganza on Feb. 14th along a parade ending at the Caesars Superdome while longtime Mardi Gras historian Arthur Hardy will serve as co-grand marshal before retiring on Ash Wednesday—next year's Krewe of Pygmalion Fest will feature Marshmello on Feb. 7th.  WWL-TV
  • On Nov 5, Honorable Rodolphe Sambou gave Susan M. Taylor—director of NOMA—the Legion of Honor at the Chevalier rank for her work linking French culture to New Orleans. Taylor has led the museum since 2010 and grown its art shows and projects to bring French and local art together.  Biz New Orleans
  • Food writer Ian McNulty (of New Orleans) reports that local eateries are mixing classic po-boys with creative twists as vendors will soon serve both traditional and inventive versions at the upcoming Oak Street Po-Boy Festival. He explains that choices range from roast beef to unexpected flavors (such as snail po-boys) while keeping the local sandwich tradition alive.  WWNO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Brook T. Smith renewed a $300K gift today for unCommon Construction to support its apprenticeship program that trains New Orleans high school students in construction. The renewed support builds on a decade-long partnership that has helped the nonprofit grow its program & boost local earnings through wages and scholarships.  Biz New Orleans
  • St. Tammany Parish Public Schools named three students—Brix LaFontaine of Little Oak, Robert Ryals IV from Fontainebleau Junior High, and Beija Lopes-Morgan from Mandeville High—as the 2025-2026 Students of the Year based on strong academics, leadership and service. They were first chosen at the school level before the district panel selected them to compete in upcoming zone/regional competitions.  NOLA.com
  • Federal oversight of special education in New Orleans public schools may end by year’s end after a decade-long consent decree showed substantial compliance, although parents reported ongoing service gaps. Judge Zainey invited parent testimony on Nov. 12 and 13, and state officials said they would follow up on concerns—critics worry that ending oversight could lessen accountability for student services.  New Orleans City Business

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Archdiocese of New Orleans is preparing for its bankruptcy trial to start today (after nearly six years of legal proceedings) as a nearly $230 million settlement for sex abuse survivors (including almost 600 claimants) sets the stage for survivor testimonies before the trial ends by Dec. 2 with settlement payments planned afterward.  WDSU
  • Officials said the demolition of the blighted Lindy Boggs Medical Center could begin in a few months—making the long-awaited project a near-future priority.  Fox 8
  • Gov. Jeff Landry announced Monday that all Louisiana SNAP recipients are now receiving full November benefits with an extra 25% for older adults and people with disabilities—funds provided from Nov. 1 to Nov. 4 come just days after the government shutdown ended.  WDSU

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Monday night, Tulane women’s basketball hosted No. 5 LSU at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse — the sold-out game aired on ESPNU at 6:00 p.m. and marked their 45th meeting, with LSU having won the last four contests while Tulane sought to end its losing streak against top-five teams.  WDSU
  • Falcons quarterback Michael Penix hurt his knee against the Panthers on Sunday and may be out for the season—he will get a second opinion before the team travels to New Orleans this weekend to face the Saints at 3:25 p.m.  WDSU
