COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Karam Salem, a local Muslim leader, urged community members at Omar Mosque in Harvey to keep their IDs and know their rights as federal immigration enforcement increases—while the West Bank Muslim Association has organized pro bono legal help for anyone questioned by agents.  WWL-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Yesterday, the Nine Times Social Aid & Pleasure Club held its second line parade in New Orleans, marking 27 years of a weekly pre-Thanksgiving tradition. Many locals joined the celebration of this long-standing community event.  WWL-TV
  • New Orleans will celebrate the season with three holiday parades. The children’s parade on Dec. 6 at 11:00 a.m.—starting at the Jazz Museum—will showcase floats, balloons and bands, while a Krampus parade will run in Bywater at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 6 and a Christmas boat parade will sail along the lakefront on Dec. 13 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.  WWL-TV

  • XOCOM appointed Danita Beck Wickwire as its first executive director of development in New Orleans—bringing nearly 30 years of fundraising experience—and she will lead donor engagement and campaign planning to expand the college’s efforts to build the physician workforce and improve health equity.  Biz New Orleans

FINANCE NEWS

  • A lottery ticket bought at the One Stop Shop on Airline near North Labarre in Metairie won a $3,905,837 jackpot after matching all six numbers drawn last night — the ticket holder must claim the prize at Louisiana Lottery headquarters in Baton Rouge by May 21.  WWL-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Tulane moved up to 22 in the AP top 25 after beating the Temple Owls 37-13—boosting the team's standing as it prepares for upcoming challenges.  WDSU
  • On Sunday the New Orleans Saints lost 24 to 10 to the Atlanta Falcons at Caesar’s Superdome as missed field goals & red zone errors cost them the lead. The Saints also lost running back Alvin Kamara to a knee injury in the second quarter and quarterback Tyler Shough threw an interception on the final play, leaving them facing a tough challenge before their next home game on December 14.  WWL-TV
  • Southeastern University’s football team was awarded the No. 16 seed in the NCAA FCS tournament on November 23; the Lions (9-3) will host Illinois State at Strawberry Stadium on November 29 with a noon kickoff and will face North Dakota State on December 6.  Fox 8
