COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A heater malfunction caused a fire in Kennel A (where the dogs were kept) at Northshore Humane Society yesterday, damaging the building while all animals were evacuated unharmed. Local residents are urged to foster the displaced dogs during the cold snap as the shelter raises funds for a new facility.  WWL-TV
  • Galatoire’s Foundation raised a record $187,500 at its annual Christmas Table Auction held Dec. 1 in the restaurant’s iconic first-floor dining room.   • DevvStream and Southern Energy Renewables plan to merge into a Nasdaq-listed firm that will produce carbon-negative aviation fuel and green methanol using Louisiana wood-waste. CULTURE NEWS

  • Founded with 45 members in 1921, New Zion Baptist Church evolved into an unofficial civil rights headquarters in its Third Street home. The church hosted key meetings, fundraisers, & voter drives while helping launch the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in 1957 and holding a Freedom Riders rally in 1961.  Verite News
  • It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play will be performed Dec. 19 at the National WWII Museum featuring 20 local stars (with live sound effects by Foley Artists) for an engaging local event.  WWL-TV
  • Audubon Institute paused membership sales after many members saw their annual fee nearly double from $250 to over $500 on Black Friday, and the institute said it will offer cost-effective options by mid-December while following up with those who purchased memberships since Nov. 28.  WDSU

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Saronic Technologies is investing $300M to expand its Franklin shipyard, boosting autonomous vessel production and creating over 3,200 jobs. Construction began in November and the project adds more than 300,000 sqft including three new slips and a fresh assembly line, with operations set to start in 2027.  New Orleans City Business

  • On Wednesday, Dec. 3, border agents launched the 'Catahoula Crunch' operation in New Orleans—reports show agents were seen in Uptown, along St. Charles Avenue and near Lowe’s on Elysian Fields, prompting business owners and schools to report lower Hispanic attendance.  WDSU

  • LSU football enters its three-day early signing period today after signing top recruit Richard Anderson from Edna Karr High School and landing other athletes like Brayden Allen.
