CULTURE NEWS

  • The Manning Family Children's Holiday Parade took place on Sunday in downtown New Orleans, showcasing 30 floats with holiday balloons, marching bands, and a visit from Santa that delighted local spectators.  WDSU
  • 16 youth from the Young Rollers Social Aid and Pleasure Club paraded out of Treme Community Center wearing custom-made outfits (founded 10 years ago) that showcase Black New Orleans traditions. The club (focused on antiviolence and cultural education) offered a positive alternative to street violence.  The Lens
  • WDSU-TV won four Suncoast Regional Emmy Awards over the weekend when the Saturday ceremony honored its Overall News Excellence and Breaking+Spot News reports, including Hurricane Francine Live Rescue, Largest Jailbreak in Louisiana History and Signals Ignored investigation.  WDSU

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local 11-year-old Abron Frye, diagnosed with cancer during the pandemic and treated for three and a half years, is now cancer-free—and will serve as king at the Manning Family Children's holiday parade. His recovery reflects dedicated hospital care that helped him return to life.  WDSU
  • Stephanie Catoire urges residents to register as organ, tissue, and eye donors while renewing their driver’s licenses. After her son JD saved six lives following a 2019 traffic accident, she reminds New Orleans to also check out holiday donor events at City Park & share in his gift of life.  WDSU

SPORTS NEWS

  • Rookie Tyler Shough scored two touchdowns as the Saints edged the Buccaneers 24 — 20 in Tampa, with a late defensive stop sealing the win. The victory improved New Orleans’ season record to 3 — 10.  WWL-TV
  • The College Football Playoff is set with first-round games on Dec. 19 and Dec. 20 on major networks; Group of 5 champion Tulane (captured in New Orleans) is among the teams advancing, with quarterfinals scheduled for Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 including the Sugar Bowl at Caesars Superdome.   WDSU
  • New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave is cleared to play Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after returning to limited practice for his back injury. However, three starters, including running back Alvin Kamara, remain sidelined.  WWL-TV
