  • New Orleans police are asking the public for help in identifying seven suspects who broke into a French Quarter business at 1:28 a.m. on July 5 and stole property before fleeing—five males and two females.  WWL-TV
  • Kenner Police are asking for help to find 17-year-old Anton Ross who went missing after meeting unknown people in a grey Infiniti at the intersection of Salem Street and 27th Street on June 30 — he was last seen wearing a black hoodie with a red Polo logo and gray pants and is described as 6 foot 4 and weighing 145 pounds.  WDSU

CULTURE NEWS

  • At the Essence Festival on July 5th, Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson inspired the crowd by urging people to learn about the court and its inner workings—she shared her experiences with fellow justices and encouraged young people to get involved in public service.  Fox 8
  • Fans said last Saturday's Essence Fest concert at the Superdome had a smaller crowd than usual — many still enjoyed live performances by Jill Scott and Erykah Badu. Long-time attendees noted changes over the years while the event still celebrated New Orleans culture.  WDSU
  • This week marks the 125th anniversary of influential New Orleans clarinetist George Lewis—born in the French Quarter on July 13, 1900, he was a self-taught musician who led local bands and helped revive traditional jazz in the 1940s and 1950s.   • Louisiana rescue teams are in Texas today searching for victims after deadly flash floods that have left dozens dead and many missing plus a 12-member team is providing support to overwhelmed local emergency crews.  WWL-TV
  • On Saturday, twelve specially trained firefighters from Baton Rouge, Zachary, West Feliciana, East Side and Shreveport Fire Departments went to Texas to help search for survivors after flash floods in the Hill Country caused at least 69 deaths and many missing—officials said heavy rain will continue in hard-hit areas.  NOLA.com
