- ➤ The NOPD is investigating a deadly shooting in Algiers after a man died near the intersection of General De Gaulle Drive and Westbend Parkway by a RaceTrac gas station and Orleans Parish School Board Office shortly before 2 a.m. Tuesday — investigators have not yet identified a suspect or motive. - ➤ A man and a woman died in an apparent murder-suicide in Harvey when deputies responded to gunshots just after 11:30 p.m. Monday on the 500 block of 3rd Avenue and found both victims with gunshot wounds—one declared dead on scene while the woman died at a hospital, with a firearm recovered nearby. - ➤ The Louisiana Attorney General’s office and Orleans Parish District Attorney’s office met on July 29 to reduce Judge Darryl Derbigny’s felony case backlog — the docket held more than 415 cases over 12 months, costing taxpayers extra money.
