The New Orleans City Council unanimously votes for a partial property tax roll-forward

The roll-forward trims planned cuts from $77 million to about $56 million

If you own property in New Orleans, your bill is going up. The City Council voted unanimously Thursday for a partial that adds around $21 million to city revenue. That covers only a fraction of the $77 million deficit in the 2027 budget, but it shrinks planned cuts to around $56 million.

Several members called it painful. Vice President Matthew Willard, who was firmly against the increase as recently as Monday, said, “This is probably the most difficult vote I’ve ever taken.”

“It is literally the vote every legislator despises.”

WWLTV reports an average-valued home will pay about $180 more per year, and WGNO found mixed reactions from residents.

Saints vs. Browns

The Saints host the Browns at noon Sunday, and Alvin Kamara returned to practice Thursday after resting a back injury. Eight Saints were listed on the injury report, and Kelvin Banks Jr., Jordyn Tyson, Martin Emerson Jr. and Asim Richards were limited.
